QUEEN’S PARK — Windsor West MPP Lisa Gretzky is demanding urgent action from the Premier as Windsor faces the highest unemployment rate in Canada, nearly 11%, with youth unemployment approaching 18%.
“Windsor is in crisis. Jobs are disappearing in manufacturing, healthcare, education and social services, and this government is nowhere to be found,” said Gretzky. “Families are struggling to survive while the Premier breaks promise after promise to protect Ontario workers.”
Across Ontario, more than 800,000 people are unemployed with the largest concentration in Windsor.
Food bank use is at record highs, and more layoffs are expected in the months ahead.
“This Premier is failing Windsor. He needs to stop the spin and empty promises and tell us what he will do, right now, to actually protect our jobs and our future,” said Gretzky.
Gretzky is calling for immediate, targeted action, including:
-
Real investment in local manufacturing and innovation, to reverse ongoing job losses in key sectors.
-
Reversing cuts to essential public services that families depend on.
-
A dedicated jobs plan tailored to Windsor’s economy and workforce.
-
Expanding training and apprenticeship opportunities to help young people enter stable, well-paid work.
“Windsor deserves a government that shows up, not one that checks out,” Gretzky concluded.
