QUEEN'S PARK - MPPs Lisa Gretzky (Windsor West) and Terence Kernaghan (London North Centre), Official Opposition Critic for Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade, are raising serious concerns after it was revealed that Stellantis, LG Energy Solution, and NextStar Batteries may be outsourcing jobs at the NextStar Electric Vehicle Battery Plant in Windsor.
"Has Ford and his government botched this billion-dollar deal?" questioned Kernaghan. "Windsor-Essex is filled with available workers. We must guarantee that our province isn’t footing the bill to outsource the good, unionized jobs that Ontario so desperately needs."
"The people of Windsor-Essex are rightly worried about the prospect of these jobs being outsourced and they need clarity,” added Gretzky. “We need to make sure the federal and provincial governments are fulfilling their $15 billion promise of creating sustainable jobs for our region. Windsor-Essex is home to some of the best skilled labour in the country. This government has had two opportunities to get this deal right. Yet they have failed because it seems like it didn’t even occur to them to tie investment commitments to our local workforce. These should be good paying union jobs.”
