Families need answers about personal info data breach: NDP

Published on January 22, 2019

QUEEN’S PARK—On Tuesday, Ontario NDP Community and Social Services critic Lisa Gretzky said that thousands of people collecting ODSP need answers about why their data was accidentally shared in an e-mail in December.

“Thousands of people have questions, and deserve answers, about why their names, personal e-mail addresses, and individual ODSP numbers were shared in a government e-mail attachment last December. Why was there a list of ODSP recipients compiled in an e-mail attachment? How is the Ford government retrieving and protecting this data?

While people scramble to uncover the extent of this data breach, the Ford government’s lack of answers is unacceptable.

Ontario families deserve better. Those impacted by this data breach deserve an assurance that their information is safe, and all Ontarians deserve an assurance that efforts have been made to ensure that this doesn’t happen again with the personal information the Government of Ontario holds on all of us.”
