WINDSOR-ESSEX — NDP MPPs Lisa Gretzky (Windsor West), Percy Hatfield (Windsor-Tecumseh) and Taras Natyshak (Essex) released the following statement after reports of racist vandalism in Windsor today:
“As MPPs for the Windsor-Essex region, we were horrified to learn of a vile act of racist vandalism in our community — an act that does not reflect the opinions or behaviours of our broader community.
Windsor-Essex is a welcoming and proudly diverse region, and expressions of hatred against any person or group based on their religion, racial or ethnic background should be taken seriously. We have to name and condemn racism when we see it. We have to seek justice for hate crimes when they’re committed.
No one should ever have to feel unsafe in our region. We as the local MPPs, along with our Ontario NDP colleagues, are committed to working vigilantly with racialized communities, anti-racism advocates and our neighbours to stamp out hate."
