QUEEN'S PARK- Official Opposition Labour Critic Jamie West (Sudbury) and MPP Lisa Gretzky (Windsor West) used today's question period to once again call for the Conservative Government to support workers in this province by voting in favour of anti-scab legislation.
"The NDP knows that anti-scab legislation prevents labour disputes from dragging on and prevents conflict and unsafe work environments," said Gretzky. "Last week, the federal anti-replacement worker bill passed at second reading with all-party support, with even the federal Conservative Party – no friend to workers - voting in favour.
"If the Ontario NDP tables anti-scab legislation in this House for the 17th time, will the Premier follow the example of his federal Conservative counterparts?”
"The Premier and his Conservative government talk a good game when it comes to supporting workers, but the jig has been up," asserted West. "With every one of their so-called 'Working for Workers' bills, we’ve put forward amendments to ban the use of scabs, and they voted them down every time”. "The Premier should never support taking workers' jobs away if they find themselves on strike or locked out. This is more than just a political decision - it's a reflection of whether they truly understand the lives and struggles of Ontario's workers." |
